Leora Garvin Obituary

Leora Carson Garvin entered peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday 27, 2019 at her home.

Leora was born on March 5, 1946 to the late John Milton and Easter Jane Carson.  She graduated from old Westside High School in 1965 where she was a member of the basketball team and the marching band.  For years beyond her high school days, she delighted her family with her love of music, especially her love of the trumpet.

She married her soulmate the late Lloyd Garvin in 1967.  They had two extraordinary children, Polita (Derek) and Howard Garvin who loved her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Shamsud-Din S. Rahim (Burgess Carson), John Thomas Carson, her sister, Marilyn Carson Clement, sister-in-law, Peggy Rahim and brother-in-law, Sylvester Chancellor.

Leora began her career as a Physical Education teacher at Perry Elementary School in District Five. She served as Regional Director of five school districts of Anderson Federal Teacher's Credit Union.  In 1999, she applied her entrepreneurial talent working with her son, Howard to open the Morris Street Tea Room Restaurant, which specialized in Southern Cuisine.

Leora profoundly loved  her grandchildren Epiphany(Willie) Smith, Breon and Lauren Garvin.  She was the proud great grandmother to 5-years-old, Marley Smith, "grand doggies,"D-O-G, PJ and Pepper.  She showered each and every one of them with love and guidance, keeping them close in the home.  Lauren Garvin was raised in the home and  was a great caretaker of her grandmother.

Beyond these loved ones, she leaves to cherish her memory, her companion Willie Crane, three sisters, Marjorie Chancellor, Brenda (Jimmy) Ellis, Patricia Carson of Anderson, SC and two brothers, Claude (Queenie) Carson of Queens, NY and Marion (Doris) Carson of Anderson, SC.  And a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
