Willie Vandiver Clark Obituary

Willie Mae Vandiver Clark was greeted into eternal rest on April 18, 2020. She was born January 29, 1918 in Townville, South Carolina the third of eight children to William and Olivia Williams Vandiver.  She was converted at an early age while attending church with her family at Fairview A. M. E. Church in Denver, South Carolina.  She sang in the church choir and, also in a quartet with her brothers and sister. Willie Mae sang shaped notes with her family at conventions.

Willie Mae received her early childhood education in Anderson County Public Schools and graduated from The Anderson Training School in Pendleton, South Carolina.

After moving to New York, she joined Bridge A.M.E. Church. She served under eight administrations at Bridge Street in Brooklyn.  Willie Mae worked in several ministries of the church including singing on the chancel choir, member of the Lay Organization, and the Class Leader.  In the Women's Missionary Society, she served as Financial Secretary, Vice President and on several different committees.  On the WMS Area level, she served as Chaplain.  On the New York Conference Level  as a member at large, she served as Treasurer and she sang with the United Conference Choir for many years  Willie Mae was always grateful for the privilege to serve.

Willie Mae was married to the late Tom Clark.  She retired from King's County Hospital after working there for 35 years in 2008. She moved to Toccoa, Georgia to live with he nephew, Daniel and his wife Janie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom Clark; brothers, Eleziah Sr., Eathern Sr., Thomas and William and sisters The Reverend Dr. Lois Lois V. Galloway, Nancy V. Rice and Dorothy V. Cooper.

She leaves to cherish warm and special memories, Goddaughter/Niece Yvette Cooper Clark(Michael), Caregiver/Nephew Bishop Daniel Galloway (Janie) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friend who loved her dearly.

She bore no children of her own, but she was a loving, devoted mother to many.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 PM, April 21, 2020 at Fairview AME Church.
